How Scratch & Win Works

Scratch & Win tickets are a fun and engaging way to try and win instant prizes. These tickets, also known as instant lottery games and or instant-win lotteries, offer a quick way to play, with the potential for immediate rewards.
How to play Scratch & Win games
Scratch ’N Win cards can be as simple as scratching and winning (hence the name!). To play, you simply:
-
Choose Your Ticket: Tickets come in various themes and price points, ranging from a few dollars to higher amounts, each offering different prize levels.
-
Read the Rules: Before scratching, read the game’s rules, including the odds of winning and the prizes. This info is on the back of the card.
-
Scratch to Reveal: Use a coin or your fingernail to scratch off the designated areas on the ticket. Underneath the scratchable surface, you'll find numbers, symbols, or other indicators that determine if you've won a prize.
-
Verify Your Win: Once you've scratched your ticket, check if you've won by comparing your revealed symbols or numbers with the winning combinations listed on the ticket. You can also scan the barcode at a lottery retailer or use the Lotto Spot app to verify your ticket.
-
Claim Your Prize: Smaller prizes can typically be claimed at the retailer, while prizes more than $1,000 may be claimed at the NT Lotteries office.
The odds of winning
Scratch ’N Win games are random, so how likely is it that a player will win? Is it possible to predict a win every time you play?

Scratch ’N Win odds vary from one game to another. On average, the odds of winning are approximately 1 in 4, but it doesn’t mean that if you purchase four tickets that one will be the winner. Even if you buy tickets in bulk, you might only have losing tickets. Winning and losing tickets are randomly distributed across the territory or nationally, depending on the game. That’s the fun of it!

The odds of winning can also vary based on two considerations: the number of tickets printed and the number of prizes available for a game. After a game is released, the numbers of purchased tickets and prizes collected have a great impact on predicting the odds of a game.
